Civitates orbis terrarum is the atlas of city plans and pictures. Its six volumes were published during 15721617 and contained 546 plans and views of cities from all over the world. Its creator and publisher was Georg Braun (15411622), a theologist from Cologne, and most of its engravings were made by Franz Hogenberg (15351590), an offspring of the famous family of engravers from Munich, while the initial versions were created by more than 100 artists and cartographers from various countries whose works were used (whether directly or copied from previous publications) in the preparation of the atlas.
