This picture is from the last period of V. Didžiokas’ life, when he acquired a country house in the environs of Rumšiškės and retreated to live in the village. The composition is fragmental and the space is small and closed. No longer lives the epic mood, decorativeness and monumentality. The apple-tree is lonely as if symbolising the life of a hermit, far from the noise of the city and artists’ intrigues.
