The etching The Vilnia in Užupis depicts the poor Užupis quarter of the city, situated on the left bank and separated from Safjaniki by the swirling river, which erodes the riverbank and destroys the wooden huts nestling beside it. The dynamic composition, the decisive lines and the dramatic contrast in the lighting recall the spring floods that devastate the city, and the power of the water to bring about disaster.
