This is the work of a mature artist. We can see an autumnal mood so characteristic of Puzinas. Vast plains and soaked fields, a low horizon and a nebulous sky create the sad atmosphere of a rainy autumn day. The atmosphere is intensified by the painter’s favourite motif of a large and lonely windmill, and the whole space of the picture is skilfully painted with matching shades of warm brown and cold bluish-grey. Here we can see the painter as a poet overwhelmed by a melancholic autumnal mood and a strong feeling of loneliness.
