The landscapes by V. Paukštė are not related to any specific location, are very abstracted, and are usually presented in silhouette, while interiors are depicted by only a few details. It is always summer in his pictures. He focuses on a combination of lush greenery with the blue of the sky, a lake or a stream, and thus by means of unusual tones creates an individual colouring for the Lithuanian landscape. He paints mythical sights in a naive style, which comes from various sources: the archaic period, the art of Ancient Greece, oriental miniatures, Lithuanian folklore, and contemporary painting. The figures incorporated in the landscape usually perform ritual acts. They define clearly male and female origins: one of the most significant motifs is love between a man and a woman. But these are allegorical or archetypal figures, devoid of any psychological features.
