The first volume of Vilnius. Topophilia presented separate sights of Vilnius, immortalised by artists of various generations and nationalities, whose different fates and situations had brought them to the city. The second volume comprises pictures that came out in series, books and thematic collections.
Collections of graphic art tell us the story of Vilnius in the 19th and 20th centuries, the wars that swept across it, and the different states and political systems, and remind us of its patriotic ideals, multinational culture and traditions of different confessions. The pictures in this book allow us to wander around the city of the two last centuries, to see its houses, streets, squares, sanctuaries, palaces and suburbs, and sometimes to meet its residents. This is a book about the unexplainable magic of the city.
