New members have joined the board of the public establishment Lithuanian Art Foundation

New members have joined the board of the public establishment Lithuanian Art Foundation. Now it consists of prof. Viktoras Butkus, prof. Donatas Katkus, Vilius Kavaliauskas, Antanas Zabulis, and Rolandas Valiūnas. At the board meeting on 14 March 2017, the main goal of the Foundation for this year was presented, i.e. to finish the reconstruction of the art gallery premises in Užupis and to prepare the gallery for the opening to the public by the end of the year.

The Lithuanian Art Foundation was established in 2013. It administers one of the country’s largest private art collections the distinctive feature of which is the link of its exhibits with Lithuanian history.  Currently, the collection contains around 1000 paintings, more than 300 sculptures, 490 maps, 1000 pieces of historic graphic art, 1800 Lithuanian books and other printed matter published before 1905. There are also species of Lithuanian numismatics, hammered silver articles and other artefacts (old Lithuanian armour, weapons, money, jewellery, etc.). The total number of exhibits, which constitute our national heritage, exceeds 6000. Most of them have been collected from all over the world.

The Foundation works in cooperation with the National Gallery of Art, the Lithuanian Art Museum, and other national museums and galleries. It often lends its articles for display in temporary and permanent exhibitions. Quite recently, the Foundation has supplemented the exhibition in the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania with a clock made by Jokūbas Gierkė (Jacob Gierke, Gierck, Giercke, Gierkiewicz, Jerkiewicz), the famous 17th-century clockmaker from Vilnius.
