Exhibition of works by Jonas Rimša "Life in Wanderings" in Anykščiai Chapel

On July 12 an exhibition of the works of Jonas Rimša, an artist from the Anykščiai region, "Life in Wanderings" was opened in the Anykščiai Chapel. The exhibition in the Chapel will be complemented by a virtual reality film based on the work of Jonas Rimša, artworks for the film were also lent by TARTLE.

There is no Lithuanian who has made his homeland so famous abroad as the painter Jonas Rimša (1903-1978). When the twenty-year-old young man moved to Brazil in search of happiness, his restless wanderer's life began: Argentina-Bolivia-Tahiti - this is the triangle of fate where J. Rimša's vivacious talent matured and developed.

The artist was attracted to nature and the life and culture of the descendants of the old Inca Empire. He was the first Lithuanian painter who searched for primitive culture, enriched Lithuanian painting with exotic motifs, the extraordinary power of color, especially green and red, and the power of rhythm in pictures. J. Rimša is called an artist who painted the soul of natives, and the combination of intense colors he found became a symbol of the tropics.
