The image of a vase of flowers, painted so many times by Leonas Katinas (1907–1984), inspired him to create a composition approaching geometric abstraction. It is difficult to believe that a Lithuanian artist would be interested in the principles of the structure of the universe, which the Dutch painter and passionate theosophist Piet Mondrian (1872–1944) attempted to represent by means of a natural motif (a tree). But Katinas instinctively went in a similar direction to that of his predecessor in the first half of the 20th century.
