While living in the United States, Vytautas Ignas (1924– 2009) worked in several Church art studios and stainedglass workshops founded by both American and Lithuanian artists. He collaborated with the Chicago-based studio of Adolfas Valeška, and later with the New York studio run by Vytautas Kazimieras Jonynas and Donald Shepherd. His experience in stained glass had a noticeable influence on his graphic style, which is marked by a tectonic rhythm of strict lines and complex compositions, constructed as if from segmented panels. Despite their dense form, works such as Jūratė and Kastytis radiate a mood of lightness and serenity, like most of Ignas’ engravings.
