Houses in the Jungle

Argentina covers an area of 2.7 million square kilometres. Its vast territory stretches from the grasslands of the Pampas to lush tropical forests and the snow-capped peaks of the Andes. While the changing seasons are felt across much of the country, what the Lithuanians would call an ‘eternal spring’ flourishes in the northern jungles. In these studies, Rimša captures the huts of the local population nestling in the greenery of the jungle. His paintings transport the viewer to the dense thicket, where plants crowd and compete for sunlight, extending in every direction. The warmth of the tropical climate can almost be felt. The vitality of nature, expressed through a rich palette of greens, brings peace not only to the eyes but also to the mind.
