This picture is from J. Vienožinskis’ early period, painted when he was a student at the Cracow Academy of Art. It was displayed in the Sixth Exhibition of Lithuanian Art. The mood of the scene is determined by the foreboding cloudy sky – an omen of a storm like in the pictures of other neo-romantics of that time: K. Stabrauskas, A. Varnas and others. The landscape is rich in shades of colours, although it is still of dark colouring – a tendency, which the painter would soon abandon (1912). This study reveals the extraordinary talent of the future artist.
