When Alfred Glatz (1870–1945) was called up into the army, he was posted in Vilnius. He produced illustrations for the newspaper Zeitung der 10. Armee, painted landscapes, and made sketches of the Old Town. He liked lively but architecturally and historically insignificant corners.
