Erik Jönsson Dahlbergh (1625–1703) was a Swedish army officer, diplomat, historian, cartographer, military engineer, architect, traveller and artist. From 1696 he was Governor-General of Livonia then ruled by Sweden and the commander of the defence of Riga in the Great Northern War. In 1656–1659, during the war between Sweden and the Commonwealth, he was responsible for the fortification or destruction of the conquered castles. He made many drawings and plans of various Commonwealth locations and pictures of battles, which were published in the book De Rebus a Carolo Gustavo Sveciæ Rege gestis commentariorum libri septem elegantissimis tabulis æneis exornati cum triplici indice by Samuel von Pufendorf (Norimbergæ Sumptibus Christophori Riegelii. Literis Knorzianis. Anno M. DC. XCVI).
