Author: Tobias Lotter (1717–1777)

In the second half of the 18th century, one of the best cartography companies belonged to the Lotter family of map-makers, engravers and publishers working in Augsburg: Tobias Conrad Lotter (1717–1777), Mathias Albrecht Lotter (1741–1810) and Georg Friederich Lotter (1762–1787). T. C. Lotter (1717–1777) was G. M. Seutter’s student, colleague and son-in-law. He inherited only part of his father-in-law’s cartographic business and therefore had to produce a new map of Lithuania (the printing plate of the GDL was inherited by the other G. M. Seutter’s son-in-law, Johann Michael Probst).
